2017 VICTORIA SERIES SHIRAZ
Inky coloured, this delicious, exciting and harmonious wine exhibits aromas and flavours of blackberry, pepper and spice combined with the elegant integration of French oak. Savoury spice adds further complexity while leading into a palate of dark berries with a hint
of cinnamon and nutmeg. A long finish is coated in soft tannins to complete the elegant palate.
A vintage that started with much higher than average winter and early spring rainfall. A cold and long winter, delayed budburst, setting up a moderate to later harvest from the beginning. Frequent spring rainfall, kept us on our toes and late but even flowering. The growing season settled down and became quite benign after New Years day. A warm January and February and the weather stayed pretty stable through harvest, meaning physical fruit quality was top notch with high natural acidity and cooler year characters and flavours.
Fruit for the Victoria Series Shiraz is sourced from premium vineyards in Central Victoria. The fertile soils on the sun drenched banks of the Goulburn River
provide the ideal site for the production of full flavoured Shiraz. Upon harvesting, fermentation is conducted over a three week period with the focus on measured extraction to create a soft tannin style with generous fruit. The wine is then matured for up to 8 months before the final blend is carefully assembled.
