2017 VICTORIA SERIES SAUVIGNON BLANC
The vibrant nose exhibits melon and lychee notes with hints of fresh cut lemon basil. A lively palate provides generous flavours of passionfruit and fresh guava which touches of bell pepper. A fruit driven, easy drinking style with refreshing acidity and a clean, crisp finish.
A vintage that started with much higher than average winter and early spring rainfall. A cold and long winter, delayed budburst, setting up a moderate to later harvest from the beginning. Frequent spring rainfall, kept us on our toes and late but even flowering. The growing season settled down and became quite benign after New Years day. A warm January and February and the weather stayed pretty stable through harvest, meaning physical fruit quality was top notch with high natural acidity and cooler year characters and flavours.
Fruit for the Victoria Series Sauvignon Blanc is sourced from vineyards in Central Victoria. The long and cool growing seasons in these areas lend themselves to wines with penetrating flavour punctuated by a crisp and refreshing acidity. In the winery, the juice was fermented in stainless steel at low temperatures to promote varietal expression and intensity. The resulting wine was blended and committed to bottle early with the intention of showcasing the freshness and vitality of the variety.
