2015 MITCHELTON SHIRAZ
Bright crimson in colour, the 2015 Mitchelton Shiraz displays intense aromas of spiced plums, black fruits and leather. Rich fruitcake, cherry and plum flavours fill a bright and fruitful palate. A blanket of fine and focussed tannins support the long, flavoursome finish and ensure that the wine will continue to improve with further maturation.
Timely rainfall at budburst ensured vines had a healthy start to the growing season following yet another dry winter period. January and February mean temperatures were slightly above average with rainfall close to median values. The warm summer conditions, moderate crop levels and healthy canopies lead to harvest commencing three weeks ahead of long term norms.
Each parcel of the 2015 Shiraz was vinified and matured separately. Fermentation, maceration and aeration were employed to ensure the gentlest extraction of colour, tannins and the truest expression of fruit. Following 16 months maturation in a combination of new and seasoned French oak barriques, each batch underwent a rigorous appraisal process to identify the best barrels for inclusion in the final blend.
