2017 VICTORIA SERIES MERLOT
Inky coloured, with aromas and flavours of kiln fired herbs, crunchy blackberries, cedar, fresh plum and beautiful graphite definition. The plush palate is saturated with gorgeous ripe fruit. A very satisfying wine and while the wine is medium to full-bodied, ithas life and li
ft that immediately grabs your attention.
A vintage that started with much higher than average winter and early spring rainfall. A cold and long winter, delayed budburst, setting up a moderate to later harvest from the beginning. Frequent spring rainfall, kept us on our toes and late but even flowering. The growing season settled down and became quite benign after New Years day. A warm January and February and the weather stayed pretty stable through harvest, meaning physical fruit quality was top notch with high natural acidity and cooler year characters and flavours.
Fruit for the Victoria Series Merlot is sourced from premium vineyards in Central Victoria. The fertile soils on the sun drenched banks of the Goulburn River provide the ideal site for the production of ripe and succulent Merlot. Upon harvesting, fermentation is conducted over a three week period with the focus on measured extraction to create a structural yet appealing style. The wine is then matured for up to 8 months before the final blend is carefully assembled.
